Prompts for finding inspiration

We all get stuck for ideas sometimes. How do famous authors get inspiration? Many tips are the same as what we already talk about – doing a repetitive task to let the mind wander, keep a notebook of ideas, journal daily – but there are some new ideas to try, like:

•  Read something you hate.

•  Be curious about weird things.

•  Talk to people (and use the conversations as dialogue in your storytelling).

•  Read the opposite of what you want to write.

•  Create an evil character out of the mundane.

•  People watch and then imagine what their lives are like.

I put this grouping of ideas into three categories: 1) Stretching your exposure to art and information by forcing yourself to read/watch/listen to media that is different from your usual fare. 2) Using your imagination, inventing supervillains and creating backstories. 3) Staying open and curious.

Are you willing to try one this week?
